As you maybe know, a track on a CD is like a digital audio file. You can convert an Audio CD track into an MP3 file. The result is, that you'll have an audible copy which is about ten times smaller then the size of an Audio CD track. Where it would take ages to download a CD track, with an MP3 file this is possible. |
| Does it cost money to download an MP3 file? |

All MP3 files on the Dubroom are free, unless it is specifically noted. You can safely download everything that the Dubroom links to, you will not get charged or billed. Sometimes you need to fill in an email address, but you can just put in a false one. |
| Are the files that are linked to on the Dubroom legal? |

Yes. The policy of this site is not to link to illegal MP3 files. There are other sites who do that. |

| What do I need to enjoy the mp3 files? |

First, you have to download it to your hard disk. You can do different things with the mp3 file afterwards. The most easy is to use a software player like WINAMP to play it on your computer. You can also burn an audio CD from the mp3 files that you've downloaded. And there are hardware MP3 players. You can burn a CD-Rom (not audio) full with mp3 files, and put them in a MP3CD player. That way you can store hours and hours of music on just one disc. |
| I make reggae mp3 files myself or with my band and I would like to be put on the Dubroom. How do we do that? |

At the moment, the Dubroom doesn't carry any MP3 files, but links to other servers which do. In this, the Dubroom is not limited to just one site, but every major music site is monitored and even more. If you're a reggae dub artist, I would advice you to sign up at VERSIONIST, or another music site, or multiple. You can always e-mail the Dubroom when your music is online, and we will take a listen and perhaps make a mention of it on the Dubroom. You can also make a link to your download pages on the Dubroom yourself. You can also e-mail the Dubroom when you want to upload the file through ftp. |
| What do I need to do in order to download an mp3 file that is labeled as "streaming only"? |

You need Winamp, a free software MP3 player. In Winamp, press Ctrl-P to open the Preferences Menu. Select Input from the Plug-ins map. One of these plug-in's is the Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder. Select it and press the Configure button. Click on the tab Streaming. On the low right of the Streaming Settings Window, you'll see a checkbox under "Saving". Check the box and click on the button below to select your saving directory. If you then stream the files, they will be saved in the directory that you selected. You can also right-cliock on a link to a file which is streaming only. You will then download a short file and this file contains the URL (Internet adress) of the mp3 file. You'll have to find out the rest yourself, cause I already said way too much. When an artist has a track "streaming only", please respect it. But if you can't stream tunes because your conmnection is too slow, or you have another valid reason, you'll know what to do. |
| When I click on an MP3 link, the file starts downloading automatically, and then it is played by Media Player or Winamp. But I want to save the file, not play it. |

It is something very annoying indeed! The solution is quite simple: Click with your right mouse button on the MP3 link in order to open the context menus. Then select "save as...". You can then go to a map in which you can save the MP3 file for later use. |
| What is the Dubroom's policy on illegal mp3 files? |
|
As stated before, this site does not willingly link to illegal mp3 files. An mp3 is considered illegal when it is taken from a CD without consent of the copyright owners. The Dubroom makes an exception in the case of music that is no longer available. If the music is rare and out of print and put online as mp3, then this is only for forwarding the vibe of reggae music and nobody gets a loss of income because of it. |

The Dubroom links to (Dub) Reggae music which has a certain quality that is far above the avarage. There are many artists with download pages, also labeled Reggae and Dub, but they are not what the avarage Dub and Reggae fan is looking for. The Dubroom has built a name in linking to good online music since 1997. It's hard to describe the exact measure according to which the Dubroom decides whether or not to link to the music, so the best is to take a look for yourself.
